Who We Are

Started in 1936, our historical society has grown from a group of passionate volunteers collecting artifacts to a three story museum in the heart of Belvidere. We work hard to preserve our county’s history for the next generation. We are continually holding events, lectures, and exhibit openings to educate the public on the intricate and exciting history of our community.

Who We Are

“This is an amazing collection, beautifully displayed, and there is lots to take in. One short visit was enough to convince me to come back and spend a lot more time. If you haven't visited this treasure in nearby Belvidere, it is a MUST SEE.”

Who We Are

"This museum is bigger than you think! Boone County Historical Museum has a unique collection of local history and national history. The exhibits change from time to time so make sure you visit more than once. There is no fee for admission but accept voluntary donations to support the museum. We hosted a holiday party at the museum this evening and the event was a success. It is a unique place to rent for a private event. Highly recommend!"

Who We Are

"Such a nice hometown museum . It was a special experience for me seeing things donated by family members from long ago to the Piggly wiggly sign bringing back memories of my first job. This place is filled with so many great things from years past with so much information. A must visit for sure!"
